Developing Standards

Home / Developing Standards
As part of JTEC’s commitment to quality assurance in tertiary education, we develop and implement standards to guide institutions in meeting essential criteria for registration and licensing, providing capacity development advice through structured support. Standards, once approved and published, are to be reviewed for possible revision at least once every three (3) years after the date of the initial approval and publication. However, where necessary, Standards may be reviewed for revision before this deadline, in keeping with the outcome of environmental scans or changes occasioned by statutory and/or regulatory requirements.

The Standards

Why Standards Matter

01

Guiding Quality Provision

The Standards utilised by JTEC communicate the criteria, quality elements, and areas of focus to guide the provision of higher education within Jamaica, and by Jamaican higher education institutions to persons globally.

02

Effective Regulation

The Standards allow JTEC to effectively regulate the tertiary education system by establishing the requirements that providers must meet in order for registration. First as institutions, and second for the qualifications they award.

03

Informing Students & Institutions

Standards inform students and learners at all levels of the expectations of higher education providers. They facilitate the development of systems for continuous improvement and the monitoring and evaluating of performance.
